Speech is silver, silence is golden they say. In other words, they mean keep your trap shut. It’s such a condescending way of saying something polite, like please maintain silence. There are better ways of expressing oneself, I have come to realise now. Often times in the past I should have chosen silence – the golden mean, in all true senses, but I spoke and I have regretted it.

Silence is all powerful. But why is it hard to find?

In a world that cannot shut up, what does it take to find some quiet? An escape? A lockdown? A pause.

But it is also difficult to pause. There is so much happening, your mind is always rushing at the speed of Churchgate fast local, originating from Virar. It is truly the best train out there. I measured the top speed on a shady website on my phone. It was quite exhilarating to watch the train touch speeds of 100 km/hr. Your mind runs way faster than that.

They say yoga helps, meditation is even better. But they don’t know anything. In my opinion, the moment your body becomes still, the mind becomes more unfettered.

What does the mind want? What the heart doesn’t.

That is true, sometimes, however it is also fascinating to see the two shake hands and conspire something absolutely evil. The end result is fun, absolutely, and soon after cracks develop into that momentary perfect relationship, just as it is in life and then we all court anguish next.

In such moments the healing agent is silent solitude. A state of absolute calm and bliss, which lasts momentarily, nope, not for forever, just for the time being. When your mind is quiet. Oh to find, silent solitude.

I once experienced it at Kalpa, among bulbuls and apple trees. And then once again at Marine Drive. Perhaps it is not too hard to find.

Just need to take the Churchgate fast more often.
