13 years after it was released, I found a copy of it at my trusted Atul Book Depot. It was at the time when I was on a Murakami trip. It was a long weekend and I had nowhere to go. I remember finishing Sputnik Sweetheart and Norwegian Wood back to back in 2 days. Losing oneself in these stories set in various Japanese neighbourhoods helped to cope with many emotions.
Then the weekend got over and I forgot about the third book – 1Q84. I manager to pick it up two weeks ago and I finally mananged to get through the 1300 odd pages of this book – the Magnum opus of Murakami. Aomame and Tengo enter a strange world where there are two moons. They live apart and long for each other. One is a mercenary who punishes those involved in domestic violence and the other teaches math and ghost writes articles and novels out of interest.
The world of 1Q84 is layered with many ideas and thoughts. So it is easy to get lost into them.
