What do you absolutely detest? I detest noise. Source of the noise doesn’t matter. Noise which disrupts the silence. But it’s not always auditory noise. Like the great Daniel Kanheman explained in his last book, Noise, anything which adds to the confusion is noise. Multiple doctors giving different and conflicting views is noise. Just the way, when a seemingly straight forward problem is met with conflicting solutions, because everyone wants to weigh in, we are looking at noise.
Noise also to me is what disrupts my state of flow. The great Hungarian Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, came up with the idea of being in a flow – when you are so engaged in a task that you forget your sense of time and place. This happens when a task sufficiently challenges you upto your capacity. These moments are rare so when someone creates disturbs me when I’m in that state also, I classify it as noise.
Noise, occassionally is good I guess. For it is what creates a diversity of opinions and opens up newer possibilities. These possibilities can open newer avenues for action and you may end up doing more than you imagine.
