I wish I could see the entire city from where I sit. The slums, the sea and the hills together. So that I know where I come from and where I want to go.

The silence from this perch would be amazing. But maybe somedays the sounds of the slums would waft past, with the aromas of the sambar that gets prepared every Sunday with hot spongy idlis in those houses where stories of Tirnurveli are shared.

Somedays the sea spray would splash on my face and remind me of those warm May evenings spent by the sea, escaping grief. Somedays the chill of the hills would refresh me and remind me of the times spent in the forests trying to forge a path. On those days I’d be free.
